ENGAGING IEEE MEMBERS FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS AND LEVERAGING TECHNOLOGY
A capacity building event for promoting IEEE PES HAC
Getting started to achieve SDGs: wonderful opportunity for learning global development with community action, SDGs Promotions, Leveraging Technology and continuing the chain of sustainability for IEEE PES HAC funded event held in December 2018 at MUET On February 13th, 2019, IEEE MUET Student Branch organized again a Capacity building event in collaboration with IEEE PES Humanitarian Activities Committee & Shelter Participatory Organization. The event was attended by 130 participants including IEEE members. The ONE-Day event was comprised of two sessions. The first session titled, “SDGs: Defining the Concept- Role of individuals in SDGs and Challenges in the context of engineering,” was conducted by IEEE PES HAC AMBASSADOR Jatendar Dharani. The session was followed by another session tilted “IEEE PES HAC initiatives and SDGs promotions”, addressed by Professor Emeritus/Advisor MUET Prof. Dr. Bhawani Shankar Chowdhry. Professor Emeritus Dr. Bhawani Shankar Chowdhry addressing the participants Participants showed a tremendous response for this session again, though most of them presented the initiatives they started after being inspired by the first session. One of the participants said we used to have a high usage of plastic bags but after attending this event I got inspiration and I wanted to be part of the global change toward sustainable development goals & I will start making paper bags, which can be easily recycled. Participants expressing their inspiration towards Sustainable Development Goals. A few days later two active members of IEEE MUET Student Branch Jatendar Dharani & Aqeel Raza being IEEE PES HAC Ambassadors 2018, along with other fellow volunteers and participants of capacity building event organized a drawing and painting activity in promotion of IEEE PES RES KIT and motivating young souls (Resident of a Slum Area) about sustainable development goals also they encouraged them to highlight issues they face in their community through piece of an Art. It was a joint activity of IEEE PES HAC in collaboration with SDG Asia and shelter participatory Organization Also Rotaract Club of Hyderabad Galaxy. This activity led event participant to analyze and survey the slum area, basic needs of people living in this area and bring a thoughtful engineering solution in perspective of IEEE POWER AND ENERGY SOCIETY & HUMANITARIAN ACTIVITIES COMMITTEE. Jatendar Dharani (IEEE PES HAC AMBASSADOR 2018) said I met these beautiful & intelligent girls & boys a day later to event, who never attended school but going only Madrasa, living in slum area near to my dwelling, no Government school in the area, this community is unregistered settlement since 10 years, therefore no civic facility there, including schools and BHU (Basic Health unit), my heart shattered while thinking about their future… never let them, never let their lives untouched, whatever I can, I will!
