A PhD research project titled “Infra-Red (IR) Based Wireless Body Area Networks For Monitoring Vital Signs” was carried out by Dr. Attiya Baqai (Assistant Professor, Electronics Department, MUET) under supervision of Dr. Bhawani Shankar Chowdhry (DEAN FEECE, MUET) and Dr. Fahim Aziz Umrani (Associate Professor, Telecommunication Department, MUET) that was widely appreciated.

This research outcome was filed for patent in Intellectual Property Organization IPO Pakistan in February 2016.  The patent is now accepted and published by IPO Pakistan  with Title: “A SYSTEM OF SECURE TRANSMISSION OF PHYSIOLOGICAL DATA FOR WIRELESS BODY AREA NETWORKS”.

Its Inventors include Dr. Attiya Baqai, Dr. Fahim A. Umrani, Dr. Bhawani S. Chowdhry faculty members MUET.

The patent is based on the development of an Optical Wireless Body Area Network WBAN that uses infrared signaling in a secure manner.

Furthermore a novel protocol is developed and tested with the transmission and reception of physiological data/vital signs over short range.

Due to international collaboration and satisfactory first year progress, two of the Endowment Scholars Mr. Moazam Javed and Miss. Aisha Kanwal who started research from August 2013 at MUET and received one year fully funded Erasmus Mundus Scholarship “INTACT” at City University London in 2014 have got extension of further two more years of fully funded scholarship. In addition more than 70 Masters / Undergraduate students and four faculty members / staff received fully funded mobility scholarships in Fredrick University London, University of Limerick, Politecnico di Milano, Italy, Technical University of Dortmund, Germany, Wrocklaw University of Technology, Poland, University of Patras, Greece, Technical University Dortmund, Germany, under Strongties, LEADERS & Experts for Asia program.

More than 350 students and faculty members from various disciplines and Institutions gathered in MUET auditorium to attend the workshop and were introduced to the numerous Erasmus+ opportunities. Vice chancellor of MUET and chief guest of the event Prof. Dr. Muhammad Aslam Uqaili, Prof Dr. Bhawani Shankar Choudhry- Dean FEECE and Prof. Dr. Inamullah Bhatti-Director (ORIC) appreciated the efforts taken for organizing the event and discussed the history of Erasmus in MUET.
